More Raine Benares books!
Finally, I can announce it -- Raine's adventures will continue!
The next two books in the Raine Benares series were sold to Anne Sowards (my marvelous editor at Ace Books) by my utterly fabulous agent Kristin Nelson. The working title for Book 3 is The Trouble With Demons. The working title for Book 4 is . . .well, Book 4. (I'll give it a name as soon as one comes to me.)
Armed & Magical (aka Book 2) will be out in May. I'm finishing the copy edits this week, and hopefully in the next month I'll be able to post sample chapters for you.
A&M is due back to my publisher by Oct. 3. As soon as that's safely in the hands of the fine folks at FedEx, I'll jump back on the first draft for The Trouble With Demons (TTWD). Then my blog will probably become more like the "life in the trenches" of writing a book. The fun, the frustration, the freaking out, the writer's block, the push through the "murky middle" and reaching the finish line -- you'll get to hear all about it. Kind of like writer's therapy for me, and daily entertainment for you. ; )

I'm looking forward to tagging along on that journey through the trenches, Lisa--the fun, the frustration, and the freaking out.
I'm sure it'll be a good education for us "not quite there yet" sorts. :)
Congrats!
Thank you!! I'm pushing to get the copyedits of A&M done this weekend. Then I need to write the dedication and acknowledgements, and get all of it FedEx'ed back to Penguin. Once that's done, I'm back to work on THE TROUBLE WITH DEMONS, Chapter 1.
I love the title! Was this an obvious choice for the title or will answering this reveal too much???
To me, The Trouble With Demons is the obvious and only choice. It's gonna be a fun book.
i just wanted to say that a can' wait to read your new book. your such a great auther.i hope im not sounding creepy lol but your now one of my fave authers. :) from W.G.
Oh, excellent news!
MORE BOOKS! yay!!!!! demons, demons are good. ^.^
Hey, congrats! I hope your sales are huge and your backlist is strong from the get-go.
Thank you to Ace and Anne Sowards.
A question--Raine's narration mentioned half elven half goblin children in Mermeia.... it was a side comment, referring to attraction between the two different races as resulting in liaisons which produced live birth viable offspring. The status of those offspring, however, didn't really get discussed. (That's probably not a question to ask Tam, and it's too late for the Mychael question period--of which he seems to have answered two (though those two were of the more provocative range of the questions asked).
Is there going to be more about such children, and what happens to them as they get older? Are any of the adult characters Raine interacts with half-bloods? In MLTF there didn't seem to be any that showed up overtly in the story, but one never knows. (No sight's been seen so far of the armies of servants which this world has had wherever there were Rich People with big houses in non-industrialized (that is, not having electrical power and massive amounts of steam or coal-fired or water power doing mass production and laundry and such... laundry was a HUGE labor sink) regions. (There was one estate where there was a person whose full time work was going about winding clocks!) If the status of the half-breeds is low, probably they're mostly "invisible" the way the servants at the courts of the French kings were--there were armies of them, but they had the status of furniture....
Thank you everyone for the congrats!! I couldn't be more thrilled to get to tell more Raine stories! ; ) As to the question regarding elf/goblin children, their status is addressed in ARMED & MAGICAL. And there is a elf/goblin character in that book, as well as in subsequent books.
Wow, MEGA congrats! That's fantastic news.
I can't wait to read your posts while you're writing the first draft. I enjoy reading the behind-the-scenes stuff. ;)
