Dreams can come true

My agent, Kristin Nelson, has a marvelous blog that's become one of the industry's must-reads. Last night she posted something that if you haven't already seen it, you should. Warning: Kristin says in her blog that the YouTube video is a Kleenex alert. It is, but in a wonderful and inspiring way. Dreams can come true.

Update on The Trouble With Demons: Chapter 9 got off to a great start last night. And yet another unexpected tidbit popped up: Tam has a second profession that Raine didn't know about (and neither did I). It's amazing what cool things your characters will tell you about themselves.

I have a favor to ask -- For those of you who've read and loved Magic Lost, Trouble Found, could you take a few minutes and pop over to Amazon or Barnes & Noble and post a review? Positive reviews do wonders for my rankings, and they also encourage others to order MLTF. I'd really appreciate it!

Lisa, I clicked on the link and watched the video. Wow. It just truly hit me that dreams do come true.

I have a question that has been nagging at me for a while. Out of curiosity (and I hope you don't mind my asking), what exactly does being an editor involve? Day to day, I mean?

I am looking at career options now, and I think that editing is something I might be interested in. If you could give me a little more info from an "insider's" perspective, or direct me to where I can find out more about the job, that would be amazing. Thanks!!

Technically, I'm an editor/proofreader, and I still do some ad copywriting. As an proofreader, I'm responsible for making sure that nothing leaves the agency with any mistakes -- spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. As an editor, I'm responsible for ensuring that everything produced for our clients is not only well written, but also meets their specific editorial guidelines. Each client company has different ways of doing things, and my job is to keep it all straight (most of our client guidelines aren't written down, but live in my head). Needless to say, the agency where I work doesn't want me to get hit by a bus. ; ) In college, I majored in English and Communications, with emphasis on journalism, advertising, and technical writing. That gave me a broad enough background to do pretty much anything I wanted to. But of course, what I really wanted was to be a published author. Goal and dream realized. *big grin*

Done. I used the same review from SFFWorld, with one tiny tweak.

Thank you so much, Lisa, for helping me out! It pretty much sounds like editing is what I thought it would be. I quite enjoy reading and revising the few works that my somewhat reluctant friends have allowed me to get my hands on. Just kidding, they aren't THAT reluctant. So maybe editing and/or proofreading is a career to look into. :) Anyways, thanks for your input, it helped!!!

I was reading through your blog, and in one of your entries you said you love hearing from your readers, so...

I just finished MLTF, and I absolutely LOVED it (raving amazon review coming soon). As soon as I was done I googled you to find out if there was a sequel, and I was both excited and dismayed (I can't wait until next April--reading the sample chapters just made me more impatient!)

You also said that you sometimes give stuff away that doesn't have anything to do with the plotline but would be fun for us to read? I love Tam, please tell me something about Tam :-) (though I really don't know what can top slamming someone into a mainmast)

Kate, glad I could help. ; )

Tia, thank you for the wonderful review!

Otto, Yes, I do LOVE hearing from my fans. Welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed MLTF. As to more information about Tam, have you been to the "Interviews" page on my site? There's a section where my characters answer questions that readers have asked. There's one for Raine, Mychael and Tam. Read them all. The one with Mychael reveals some things about Tam that no one knew.
