Slow as molasses

Writing the last few chapters of Bewitched & Betrayed is like slogging through molasses. For those of you unfamiliar with the concoction, it's a really thick syrup used in a lot of recipes down here in the South. Baked beans and gingerbread are two examples. Now I'm no expert on molasses, but I do know that it's slooow to come out of the jar. Much like the last five chapters of Bewitched & Betrayed are slow to come out of my head.

And I know the reason why -- the last few chapters are when all the plots, subplots, and action have to come together. They don't necessarily have to be tied up in a neat bow (after all, I'm writing a series), but they at least have to connect somehow. If something absolutely refuses to connect, chances are good that it doesn't belong in the book. I REALLY hope that doesn't happen. I don't want to be tearing the book apart six weeks (oh crap, it's now five) before my deadline. That would just be messy and time-consuming. And quite frankly, all of my time is consumed, or at least spoken for.

Funny thing is, this exact same thing has happened with every book. I went back to my blogs of this time last year, and I'm having the exact same problems. Oh well, at least I'm consistent. And since The Trouble with Demons turned out great, I'm sure Bewitched & Betrayed will do the same. Eventually. So if my blogs start to sound a little more scatterbrained than usual over the coming weeks, you know the reason why.

Coming up on tomorrow's Saturday Snippet: A snippet from The Trouble with Demons featuring Raine and Sarad Nukpana.

UPDATE on BOOKSPOT CENTRAL March Madness Book Tournament: Armed & Magical won its first-round matchup and is now in the Semi-Finals! Thank you so much to everyone who voted! The Semi-Final round is Armed & Magical vs. Dead to Me. If you liked Armed & Magical more than Dead to Me, please pop over and vote. Here's the link to the voting page. I'd love for Armed & Magical to make it to the finals -- and one step closer to a trophy. My little book would love a trophy. ; ) Voting for this match is now open and will end around 8:00 PM EST on Monday, 3/30. It doesn't matter if you voted in the first round, you can vote again -- and please do. Thank you!!

Have a great weekend, ya'll!

That does sound like a tricky stretch of writing. I hoe it goes well. {SMILE}
