The ultimate you know you're a writer when . . .

I was relieved yesterday to read Ilona Andrews' blog. In it, she talks about how her brain reacts when full or working too hard. Reading the snippet below made me realize that I'm not the only one who's brain does the "all circuits are busy right now, please try your call again later" thing.

From Ilona's blog:
I do get extremely frustrated and I frequently think too hard. I'm really kind of exhausted at the moment and thinking about anything is too hard. I can usually tell when I've reached the daily limit of work, because I forget the names of everyday objects. Talking to me becomes a trying experience, because I pause struggling to remember things, while narrative related stuff is cycling through my brain.

"Gordon, hey, have you seen my. . ."

Gordon: waits.

Five seconds later, ". . . coffee cup? I know I put it somewhere . . ."

There is only so much RAM in my head and the system experiences slow downs when running at full capacity.

If you haven't read Ilona and Gordon's books, DO IT. Great books, wonderful blog.

What brain misfires do you have while writing?

When I'm thinking too hard I tend to wonder downstairs for a cup of tea and find myself trying to put the saltine crackers in the fridge with no idea why, and no clue what I came downstairs for, either.

oh I don't even have writing as an excuse. I have to ask my husband where things are in the fridge, have him get up, and then I can see them.

I swear, I take it in the basic motor functions. I start thinking to hard and don't pay attention to the outside world. I trip over things...like the stairs, while walking up them. I run into things. I forget words.
That said, I had the ultimate writer's moment yesterday: I haven't been able to write much lately because my personal computer has decided to hate me, and, yesterday, I thought the overcast sky looked like a blank word document.

I lose words when I'm busy thinking, whether I'm thinking about writing, or something else entirely. {Smile}

Then again, most of the "non-writing" thoughts would be perfectly at home in a blog post. Some even end up there. {SMILE}
