Where I write
I finally have what I've always wanted -- an office with a door that I can close. However, I'm never alone. Natasha, our kitty, insists (loudly) that she be in her bed underneath my desk, or rubbing against my office chair demanding love. So if I close the door and if Natasha isn't on the inside, she'll meow until she gets her way.
One thing I don't have is a wall of built-in bookshelves and cabinets. In our next house. Definitely.
I found a few pics of my office.
The door to my office (what was actually meant to be a bedroom). The sign on the door says "This property protected by pirates." And it is.
Me at my desk. This was taken a year or so ago. My hair is much shorter now and my office is much messier.
My book cover poster collection. A friend of mine who's a professional photographer outputs a poster for me every year. I have the poster for Bewitched & Betrayed, but just haven't bought a frame for it yet. It'll go next to the TTWD poster.

For your writers out there, where do you write?Home office? Coffee shop? Library? Need quiet (like me). Need background noise?
BTW -- In case any of you want to order a copy of the "PBS Cooks!" cookbook (with a section of author recipes-- including mine for Ginger Ale Pound Cake), you can order them via PaperBackSwap.com. Thank you, Margaret! : )

I usually write in the living room (because my computer is there) or the bedroom (because my children aren't there). Complete quiet is almost never possible at my house, unless by some miracle all my kids take a nap at the same time.
I usually write either in the "talk if you want" section of the public librabry, or at my desk at home. Writing is usually done at home around midnight, when my creative juices start flowing, or in the afternoon, when I´m sitting in the librabry and should be doing other things.
And there has always to be background music/writing soundtrack.
I have an office at home. When I write I too need to hear music. The office has my desk with my iMac, printer/copier/scanner, project stack, writing calendar, and submission calendar. On one wall is a Kansas map that I mark as I drive the roads to my various book talks.
Recently I moved my model railroad up to the office from the basement. I was never running trains when it was down there. I ran some on New Year's, but I've been too busy to run since. Maybe soon...
I write in three places: my desk at work (BAD employee, BAD), the computer desk alcove in our home library surrounded by books and listening to new age/spa music, or in bed. Best musing seems to be done in bed in the morning, and have been known to spend some quiet time there handwriting things while they're still fresh in my head.
We have a small 3rd bedroom that I'm hoping to convert into an office for me. Will need to keep the futon in there though for when friends and family come visiting and the 2nd bedroom is already being used. Will more than likely decorate in medieval style with faux stained glass on the window and framed maps of different worlds conceived by my favorite authors that I've been collecting. As my Hubby says, "All good books begin with a map." So true. So true.
I just love hearing all this. ; )

I love your office! It looks so stress-free and comfortable--with lots of space. I just have a desk and computer in the corner of my bedroom, although I'm hoping to move so I have an actual office in a few years.
Before I got my office-with-a-door, I had a tiny desk in the corner of my bedroom. That's where I wrote Magic Lost, Trouble Found and Armed & Magical.
I have a desk in my bedroom. I have a sign on par with yours: "Beyond this place, there be dragons." It's kind of true.
I usually have music going, but, because I'm a musician, it has to be specific music that I won't be distracted by. Also, I usually can't write in chaos. Cleaning up becomes an unfortunate reason to not keep my but in the chair.
I'm lucky enough to have an at home office (we made sure to buy a 3 bedroom house since in the past I've written in the kitchen). Unfortunately, it's an older house and a small room, so I had to take the door off-- which invites interruptions, grin. I need music to write-- I have my iPod hooked to my stereo so I can add and subtract music as my tastes change. I have also written in the library at school where I teach and in a very loud TV newsroom when I used to work in TV.
My office is a mass of bookshelves, piles of books, posters and inspirational quotes. Lisa, yours looks so neat and stress free : )

I have a desk in my bedroom. I hung a couple fairy pictures above it for inspiration. The rest of my bedroom is bookshelves and chaos. My book collection keeps overrunning my shelves, and my art supplies WILL not stay in one place.
oh your office is fantastic! I'm just trying to get a room to 'go to'.. I'll worry about what to do in my room once I'm there.
