We're moving!

Thought I'd let you all in on what Derek & I will be doing over the next few months.

We're selling the house we're in now, then we'll be buying and moving into another house. Naturally that entails packing and moving all of our stuff (and all of our fur-kids) from one house to the other and then unpacking. Oh, the joy (yes, that's sarcasm). We're looking forward to the new house (at least new to us), but I don't know of anyone in their right mind who enjoys the physical act of moving all their worldly goods. During all of this time-consuming activity, I have a book deadline (Con & Conjure), and a book coming out (Bewitched & Betrayed). Add to that my full-time day job and my magazine column, and the next few months are gonna be nuts.

Our house will be going on the market in the next week or so, and Derek and I have been looking at potential new homes for quite some time now. We've found a fabulous candidate, and plan to look at it on Sunday (that'll be our Super Bowl party).

I'll be keeping up my blogs, but just wanted to give ya'll a heads up that I may have to take a blogging day or two off occasionally. Some days I just won't be able to get it all done -- especially during the actual move itself. When we moved into the house we're in now, it took TWO WEEKS to get Internet access. Basically, anything could happen, so I'm just gonna roll with it.

That being said, tomorrow's post was going to be "Keeping a story believable," but with what I've discovered in the past few days about schedules for different books, I'm going to blog on that instead.

Yuck. We're in the process of moving right now. We've actually been in the process for six months and more. The house needs a lot of work, and each time we think we're almost finished, something else goes wrong that prevents us from moving in. I can't tell you the number of times I've moved boxes into the house only to have to take them back out again.

The worst part, though, is paying for both rent and a mortgage.

Wow, talk about hectic. Good luck. You're pretty brave, moving in the middle of everything, but I guess life doesn't wait around for you to have a free moment.

We're going to be having some work done on the house really soon, then it'll go on the market.

We moved into the house we're in now while I was on deadline for Armed & Magical, so I've done it before and I can do it again, but it ain't gonna be pretty. ; )

Label everything. Take photos before you pack. Double check every box. Pray to the almighty moving gods that everything arrives at the same house in one piece.

Moving cross country for a few months we left most of our goods in storage. I thought I was dragging my spice cabinet in the car with me. When I got the to the 3 month apartment I found out I had a collection of drapes (none which fit the windows) and that my spices were in Florida. It was so sad.

Rest assured, my OCD extends to packing. I put the name of the room and the box number 1 of 10, etc. on each box. I put a sign on each door of the house we're moving into for the movers (so they get the right boxes in the right rooms). THEN I have everything logged on a clipboard and check each room as they're unloaded. I can safely say that I'm organized. ; )

And we'll be moving within the same county (30 miles max)

My mom loves to move. The longest she's ever lived in one place was seven years, and she's in her sixties. Let's just say I'm not as enthusiastic as she is about packing all my stuff up and then unpacking it.

I hope your move goes smoothly and that you find your dream house!

Oooh, exciting! What I remember of it, I've always enjoyed moving - I had been a child at the time, and therefore I wasn't really needed for the packing and organising. But even now, I LOVE the idea of decorating a house, and making sure everything is just so. I love the idea. I had such a good time watching my Dad decorate my room a few years ago ;) (I did help, I just wasn't very good at it apparently, and was told to go away, but nicer).

Hope it's not too stressful!

Wow, how exciting! Moving is one of those incredibly fun yet exhausting experiences.
It's glad to know some things never change, Lisa. Today is the first time I've visited the blog in months. Life has just flown by, taking me along for the ride! I can't say how lovely it is to visit the site again and know that some things never chage. :)

Hi Kate! Well, one thing that will be changing is my website. ; ) My webmasters Todd and Elyse are working on the design now. It's gonna be seriously cool.
