Monday snippet and Tuesday contest

Before we get to today's Bewitched & Betrayed snippet, a little blog housekeeping business . . .

works4me is the winner of their choice of one of Rob's first four Cal books! Just email me with the title of the book you want (either Nightlife, Moonshine, Madhouse, or Deathwish) along with your full name and mailing address and Rob will sign and personalize your copy and get it in the mail to you.

The winners of the Ace/Roc ARC contest are posted today over at Dear Author. I do believe some of you won. : ) Go check the list for your name.

And if you didn't win over at Dear Author, coming up tomorrow is some news and a new contest to win an ARC of Bewitched & Betrayed. Yep, I scored TWO ARCs for you guys from my editor's awesome assistant, Kat Sherbo. Let's hear it for Kat -- wooooooo! I'll have a second contest soon for a chance to win the second ARC.

Starting on Wednesday for those of you ready to start submitting your work to agents, I'll be having a mini book synopsis writing seminar. Wednesday's post will be on what a synopsis is, and even more important, what a synopsis ISN'T. Then on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, I'll post the synops that I wrote for Magic Lost Trouble Found, Armed & Magical, and The Trouble With Demons. For those of you who haven't read one of more of those books yet, avert your eyes -- needless to say, a synop is chock full of spoilers. In fact, it's nothing buy spoilers. I know I learn better by reading an example, and I think it might help some things click for you writers out there if you read a synop of a book that you've read that also won over a publisher. Hope it helps.

Now on to our B&B snippet:

"Run!" Mychael screamed at me.

I wanted nothing more, but running was easier screamed than done.

I dodged one filmy appendage and almost ran smack dab into another one. The damned things had floated in through the walls. Right now I didn't care if the Reapers had followed me or Nukpana. I just wanted to survive the next few seconds.

There were enough Reapers to go around, so while I was the odds on favorite, Nukpana and his uncle had their hands full. Reapers were flowing around the Khrynsani mages, ignoring them completely. The mages started hissing some sort of spell that had absolutely no effect on them.

I'd seen fear in Sarad Nukpana's black eyes once before -- right before the Saghred took him. He knew he was screwed then, and he knew the same thing now. He wasn't wholly spirit, but he wasn't solid enough to put up any kind of physical fight, either.

And I couldn't reach the bastard. He'd never be more vulnerable than he was right now, and I couldn't get anywhere near him.

Oh, come on. You aren't killing Nukpana off yet! (Should I start team Nukpana? Would I be the only one on it?) There's still so much left to do! (Not that you would tell me, but wtvr ;. ) And I lost the arc contest. Good to see some things in life are consistant! :) What will your contest be?

Lisa: having just struggled with a synopsis over the weekend, I'm looking forward to those posts this week. Examples really help me, too. Thanks in advance.
